Restrict Off-Site Viewing of Meraki Video Assets With Vision Portal Access

The Meraki Vision Portal is a powerful solution for viewing and sharing security video footage. However, a key requested feature for Vision Portal is not yet available natively: the ability to let Meraki administrators block users who are not on-site. Without this feature, many companies are unable to completely secure access to camera footage or feeds.

Insider threats are a growing security problem for many organizations. Allowing users to access video feeds while at home or away from the office can create serious security and compliance vulnerabilities.

To solve this problem and enhance the security of your Meraki networks, Boundless is introducing Vision Portal Access.

With the Boundless Vision Portal Access solution, administrators can easily block off-site access to any organization’s camera feed. All of the configuration is handled from the intuitive Boundless Dashboard and access control for each organization can be set up in minutes.

Vision Portal Access significantly enhances the security of your Meraki organizations without burdening your team with time-consuming manual configuration or complex software implementations.

Vision Portal Access Features at a Glance

Boundless Vision Portal Access offers significantly enhanced security that is fast and easy to implement, even in large enterprise settings. The solution achieves this powerful combination of effectiveness and security through several innovative features.

Boundless Vision Portal Access User Overview

SAML Access

Vision Portal Access works as a SAML identity provider. Users are verified before accessing Meraki’s Vision Portal based on the network or camera roles and their location.

IP-Based Security

The solution identifies the public IP address of each user before they connect to the Vision Portal, and determines if they are on the same network as the MV camera they’re trying to access. If the user is accessing the network with a different public IP address or using a VPN, they will be instantly blocked.

Seamless Meraki API Integration

The Vision Portal is powered by the Meraki API. Vision Portal Access obtains information about the network via the API and can then block or grant access to users based on their IP location or level of access for the selected network and camera.

Intuitive Boundless Dashboard

With just a few clicks, the Boundless dashboard allows you to quickly connect to your Meraki organization. There’s no tedious configuration needed and no other time-consuming steps are required. Vision Portal Access automatically detects the user’s public IP address and blocks those who are not connected to the same network as the MV camera.

Implementing Vision Portal Access is Fast

Our mission when developing Vision Portal Access was to ensure it could be implemented in minutes and work seamlessly with your existing configurations and settings. We delivered on that goal and you can implement Vision Portal Access in three simple steps, even at the enterprise level.

Step 1: Create your workspace

Right from the Boundless dashboard, you begin by creating and naming your workspace.

Step 2: Enter your API key and connect your Organization

Enter your API key to connect to the Meraki dashboard. Once connected automatically, you choose the organizations that you want off-site video access blocked.

Step 3: Add the users you want to block from off-site access

Create your Vision Portal users in Boundless. You can migrate their access from Meraki local authentication to external SAML authentication, or create a separate access. Then, assign an access role to them.

When those users log in to the Vision Portal through Boundless, the system will verify their IP address before granting them access. If they are off-site, they will get a message that their access is blocked.

Real-World Solutions for Today’s Security Threat Vectors

In today’s security environment, remote access to network resources is becoming common. With that increased access also comes new security risks.

The ability to remotely access security video while off-site creates sizable security gaps for any organization. It also creates privacy and data liabilities that may put you out of compliance with various contract requirements.

Vision Portal Access allows enterprise businesses to immediately block this type of insecure remote access to their video assets. It’s an extremely cost-effective solution for a potentially costly problem.

Vision Portal Access Provides a Complete Solution

Without Vision Portal Access, there is no simple way to lock down access to your MV cameras. Our solution allows you to quickly control access using all of your existing configurations and network settings. You get the control you need without introducing any new complexity or security openings.

Improved Control for your Meraki MV Camera Feed

The original Meraki Vision Portal is a powerful video solution, but it can leave your camera feeds vulnerable to remote viewing by inside threat actors or others possessing compromised credentials.

The Boundless Vision Portal Access solution allows you to immediately block outside access to all of your video feeds and archives while still providing the flexibility needed to allow instant access through the Meraki Dashboard during critical situations.
